Package 6: Kindergarten Showcase: Heart of Prayers
Each kindergartner carefully colored and created unique designs on two sheets of paper. The students then learned how to fold origami, and transformed their paper creations into beautiful origami cranes all on their own. On the inner wing of each crane, they drew a symbol or wrote a word representing themselves. While folding their cranes, each student was asked to say a heartfelt prayer for someone or something that was important to them. The cranes these students created represent their faith, hope, and love. The cranes were then strung together to form a beautiful heart on a white oak frame, with Mrs. Gatto's crane nestled at the center of her flock. DIMENSIONS: 34” x 34”

Package 7: 1st Grade Showcase: Through Their Eyes
Mandy Kav Art, Portland based artist, collaborated with first grade students to create a unique and meaningful painting that captures the essence of the school campus through the eyes of the young artists. The project began with the students using disposable cameras to capture their favorite places on campus, each holding a special memory or significance to them.
Using the students' photographs as inspiration, Mandy carefully curated a color palette based on the consistent colors found in the images. Utilizing acrylic paint on raw canvas, she skillfully translated the vibrant hues of the students' photos onto the canvas, bringing their vision to life.
Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds St. Thomas More, Mandy's composition takes on a creative adaptation of an aerial map of the school's location. The roads depicted in the painting converge towards the top of the hill where the school is situated, symbolizing unity and connection. The imagery suggests that the paths leading to different parts of the city ultimately lead to a common meeting point, mirroring the sense of community fostered at St. Thomas More School.
Through this collaborative effort, Mandy Kav Art and the first grade students have created a captivating painting that not only showcases the beauty of the school campus but also celebrates the shared experiences and memories that make St. Thomas More a special place for all who are part of its community. By Mandy Kav Art. DIMENSIONS: 36” x 36”

Package 9: 3rd Grade Showcase: Gratitude Circles

A special thank you to Ms. Bekar for her leadership and embodiment of the virtue of gratitude. DIMENSIONS: 22” x 22”

Package 10: 4th Grade Showcase: Portland Skyline Fireworks
The 4th grade class learned several techniques in the use of liquid acrylic paints and liquid frisket. They first experimented on individual 8" x 8" canvases with the initial of their first names masked out for them. The focus of their explorations was to embrace the lack of control in a wet-on-wet application, resulting in gorgeous color washes and bleeds that they delightedly described as "fireworks". In the final piece, they collaborated to paint on a large canvas highlighting the Portland city skyline. DIMENSIONS: 36"x 18"x 1.75"

Package 11: 5th Grade Showcase: Where in The World
5th Grade parents Matt McAlpine and Richelle Potestio worked with the 5th-grade class to discuss where students have traveled or would like to travel. The response was wildly successful! So many are interested in going to Japan! From there students were put in groups of two and sketched a famous landmark of their choosing on 5x8 sketch paper. The style of each sketch is unique to each landmark and the kids who sketched it. The finished product has been beautifully framed into one large piece with a total of 12 sketches in 4 rows of 3 sketches.

Package 12: 6th Grade Showcase: Scuttle Like an Egyptian
Scarab beetles were symbols of rebirth, resurrection, transformation, and growth. Here is your change to add some luck to your home with this beautiful 6th grade art project. The 6th graders were inspired to create this project by their study of Ancient Egypt and local artist Christopher Marley.
